Shasta Astrodome

The 1963 Shasta Astrodome Is Truly Impressive

When I first spotted this 1963 Shasta Astrodome I almost caused an accident. I had to pull off the road, wait for traffic to clear and make a u-turn. This incredible vintage camper trailer was sitting on a farmers field begging someone to buy her. Can you believe it? Just sitting there in the dirt. I can't believe I even spotted her. This Shasta Astrodome looked like a feature of the land.

This 1963 Shasta Astrodome camper was a little worse for wear but I have seen some that are in absolutely horrific condition. Vintage Camper collectors will go so far as to do a body off frame rebuild from the ground up just to have a restored vintage camper in perfect condition. Luckly this camper was in pretty darn good shape for being a classic camper. It has taken some work and a lot of luck to turn her into an (almost) "Glamper" trailer but I have loved every single moment of working on her. She is a very sharp camper.

The interior of this 1963 Shasta Astrodome was in pretty good condition. With the body, frame, chassis and exterior being in good shape this was like icing on the cake. The interior is impressive from a historical point of view. That is why I took these photos. However, the wood is very old and actually does have some stains. Not to mention,  it kinda smelled.  So I chose to modernize a bit with some more glamorous paint colors. If you are going to use it then it should be your own style  in my opinion. Keeping the Shasta Astrodome original and just adding color is more of a functional preservation effort. Additionally, "glamping" is all the rave right now.

I have found it nearly impossible to resist falling in love with this Shasta Astrodome Camper. To think that anyone designed something so functional and so well that it has lasted over 50 years is honestly impressive. I guess it is because we now live in such a disposable minded society. The Shasta Astrodome Camper is a gem. It would be difficult to part with.
